Connect with your community

Connecting with your community can make a big difference

Especially when it feels like you’re far apart. It’s easier to manage the highs and lows of the festive season when you don’t feel alone.

But building trust with the people around you can take time, and sometimes they may let you down. Learning to rely on your community isn’t about expecting them to come through every time—it’s about knowing they’re there, even if they’re not physically present. Belonging is a journey, and it’s okay if it takes time to feel like you fit in.

Our communities are where we find celebration, support and love

But sometimes, things get in the way of connecting in healthy ways. If conflict arises, being assertive can help ensure our voices are heard while maintaining respect for others.

Lean in and remember that by focusing on the joy of connection, we can create a season of care and support. It’s okay to acknowledge our differences, because together we can get through even the toughest moments

Practising assertive communication

Assertive Communication helps us communicate our thoughts and feelings in a clear and constructive way. Use or share these tips to reduce any unhelpful behaviours, like avoidance or aggression.
