You might get a few gifts you don't really need
Let’s face it, over the holidays you’ll likely receive a gift or two that you didn’t ask for (and probably didn’t need). But one gift you can give yourself—and actually need—is rest.
The holidays can be busy, and this time of year often disrupts our regular routines. Changes to class schedules, work shifts and face-to-face therapy can make this time of year feel more challenging than usual. Even if your commitments don’t ease up, you might notice that things feel a bit different during the festive season.
Rest is not another item on your to-do list
It can be as simple as taking a moment to close your eyes, take some deep breaths or step away from the noise. You might try listening to your favourite music, enjoying some iced tea or spending some time outside to soak up some fresh air.
Sleep is important but rest is about more than just catching enough zzz’s. It’s giving yourself the space to recharge, physically, mentally, and emotionally, in whatever way works best for you.
Take a moment to reflect
What helps you to feel well-rested?
How can you find rest during the busy holiday season?
In a season that’s all about giving, give yourself permission to pause and reflect on your feelings as they arise.
Rest doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s a simple gift that can make all the difference. By taking care of your mind and body, you can fully embrace the festivities and step into the new year feeling balanced.
